On the one hand, there are those things we officially teach. But on the other hand, there is an unofficial curriculum, and that is the—the aroma of Christ that is imparted.

And that is something that's much harder to put your finger on, but it is transformative for churches because leaders go out, pastors go out, and they will shape churches in their own image. And if they are themselves harsh, critical, bitter in spirit, they will create cultures like that.

Even if they can't always name it, they will be detecting this aroma, this atmosphere around their leaders.
