What is the true nature of prayer?

To know you are a beloved child of God also protects you from thinking that prayer is a ladder to work your way into the favor of God.

No, prayer does not make you more accepted. Prayer is growing in the appreciation of what you’ve already been given. The fact that you have the right to this access—you can’t earn that. It’s a gift you’ve been given to enter into and enjoy.

And so it may be your heart is cold, your love is weak, your prayers are so shabby. But what matters is, united to Christ, you are a cherished child of God. A son in the Son, and therefore your Father in heaven delights to hear you.
