Ian, an Anglican theologian, author and speaker, tells Dave Piper the business of the Church went on, over the last year, as the appointment of Dame Sarah Mullally was agreed. Ian claims there is too much bureaucracy; too much in-fighting over things like sexuality and slavery reparations; and too little focus on ordaining enough clergy to serve the parishes. Ian suggests the Church of England refocus on the main business of the Church – spreading the Gospel.
TWR UK has contacted Church of England, for their response to this interview. A spokesperson for the Archbishop of York told us: “Mr. Paul fundamentally misunderstands how the Church of England is governed. It is not within the power of an Archbishop to arbitrarily vary the number of bishops. There is a legal process involving a committee of people drawn from across the breadth of the Church of England that helps make those decisions.”
