Most Christians are taught the Gospels were written within decades of Jesus' death by people close to the events. But what if the evidence tells a different story?

Dr. Mark Goodacre (Duke University) has spent his career tracing the literary relationships between the Gospels, and his findings have major implications for when they were actually written. John appears to know all three Synoptic Gospels. Ignatius of Antioch appears to know Luke. The Gospel of Thomas appears to depend on Luke rather than being an early independent source. Each of these connections tightens the timeline and pushes the dates later than most scholars are comfortable admitting.

So why won't the field move? What's keeping conservative scholars locked into early dates? And what does it mean for claims about eyewitness testimony and Gospel reliability if these texts are later than we've been told?
