Former Canon-Theologian Loveday Alexander introduces two seventeenth-century saints, Nicholas Ferrar and George Herbert, part of a group of “Caroline Divines” whose portraits appear in the South-East corner of the Cloisters. Two friends, one a “merchant adventurer" who founded the Little Gidding community, the other a Cambridge Orator who became a country parson and wrote one of the most famous and influential books of religious poetry in English. Both captured by a very English vision of holiness which is still relevant today.
