How much more so for Isaiah, the pure splendor of the Lord, exposes all impurity by its brightness. And therefore, Isaiah sees this bright, pure glory and cries, woe is me. I am ruined. I am a man of unclean lips, and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have seen the King. But then one of the seraphim flew to me with a burning coal in his hand, which he'd taken from the altar with tongs. And he touched my mouth with it and said, behold, this has touched your lips, and your iniquity is taken away, and your sin is atoned for. In the place where the Lord is lifted up, there is an altar. The place where the fire of holiness consumes the offering for sin. It is the place where the substitute is offered up for the sin of the people. And with the blazing coal, that atonement is applied to Isaiah so that his guilt is taken away.
