You know the great Augustine famously wrote in his enormous work, The City of God, he said that humanity divides over this. Humanity divides into two cities, an earthly city and a heavenly city. And these two cities, he said, have been formed by two loves. The earthly city is formed by love of self, even to the contempt of God. The heavenly city is formed by love of God, even to the contempt of self. The former glories in itself. The heavenly glories in the Lord. The one seeks glory from men, but the greatest glory of the other is God. The one lifts up its own head in its own glory. The other says to its God, "Vow art my glory, the lifter of my head."
