Mark Thiessen Nation led a conversation around the newly released film
Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Spy --Assassin? (Angel Studios, November 22).
Bonhoeffer was an extraordinary witness to the Christian faith and his life is depicted in this film.
Mark, former professor of theology at Eastern Mennonite Seminary, provided an overview of the film, critically engaging the story it tells. He helped us to reflect on what Bonhoeffer’s life and thought might still say to us today about Christian discipleship.
Mark has been doing research on Christians in Nazi Germany since 1980. His first essay on Bonhoeffer was published in 1991. He has also authored two books on him: Bonhoeffer the Assassin? (2013) and Discipleship in a World Full of Nazis: Recovering the True Legacy of Dietrich Bonhoeffer (2022). This latter book, in particular, is recommended as a way to critically engage the film.
