What about the empty tomb—how solid is the evidence? Many apologists include it as a key fact for the resurrection, and a majority of critical scholars (especially Christian ones) affirm it. Yet, far fewer non-Christian scholars grant the empty tomb, making it a point of caution.

Still, even skeptical scholars like Bart Ehrman acknowledge that the disciples sincerely believed Jesus rose bodily from the dead. Others, like Dale Allison, carefully affirm the empty tomb while striving to avoid bias. The question becomes whether we’re too quick to accept it because of our own hopes—or whether the evidence stands on its own merit.

Regardless, the historical record is clear: the earliest disciples truly believed in a physical, bodily resurrection. That conviction, whether or not one includes the empty tomb as a fact, demands explanation.
