In this lesson, we dig into the main point of Genesis 1--to declare God's transcendence over his creation. We see this in (1) the excessive use of the term Elohim, (2) the fact that God is the subject of all the verbs, and (3) the Ancient Near east creation accounts, which serve as a polemical foil for the portrait of God in Genesis 1. In the end, we should resonate with the words of king David in Psalm 8: "What is humanity that you are mindful of them?"
