Pastor Jeff is pleased to have Dr. Kelly Kapic join him on Distinct People Distinct Time to discuss the theological implications of our humanity and to discuss Dr. Kapic's most recent book, You're Only Human. ______________________________ Resources from the Episode Books: You're Only Human // Dr. Kelly Kapic _____________________________ Show Notes: SUMMARY Pastor Jeff Long welcomed Dr. Kelly Kapic as a special guest to discuss his book, You're Only Human, which explores the idea of human limits reflecting God's design. Dr. Kapic is a professor at Covenant College and is originally from Lodi, California. He has been married for 30 years and has been teaching theology since 2001. The personal motivation for Dr. Kapic's book was due to his wife's battle with a rare form of breast cancer that normally affects people in their eighties. Pastor Long asked why he wrote the book and Dr. Kapic explained that his motivation was both personal and theological in nature. He believes that recognizing and embracing our limitations can help us better understand God's design. Dr. Kelly Kapic speaks about his wife's journey with cancer and chronic pain over the past decade. These experiences inspired Kapic to write a book, Embodied Hope on Pain and Suffering, which ultimately helped him to be ready to talk about the good of being human. He also speaks of the guilt and shame he often experiences at night when he lies down in bed. His wife's story of pain and suffering, as well as his own, are important parts of Kapic's journey. Dr. Kelly Kapic and Pastor Jeff Long discuss how God's to-do list and expectations of humans can be interpreted through the theological concept of finitude. Dr. Kelly Kapic notes the importance of recognizing finitude when raising children.
