For so many Christians, they struggle when they go through a dry patch spiritually, and they're feeling, "Once I love Jesus, and now I just don't want him in the same way I did, and that's a worrying, cold place to be, but I don't know how to get out of it." And if that's you, you're in a place where you're thinking, "I wish I loved Jesus as once I did, and I don't know how to get to that more joy-filled place again." Go to John 3. In John 3, Jesus is talking with Nicodemus and telling him, "You must be born again." Nicodemus simply doesn't understand. He's being told about the need for a new heart and a new spirit, and he doesn't get it and says, "How can this be?" And what Jesus does is He then takes him from the need to the solution, which is, as Moses lifted up the serpent on the pole, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life. So his point is, it is when you look to Jesus Christ crucified, when you look and trust in Him, that's when your heart is turned. That's when, when that happens for the very first time, you'll be born again. But it's an ongoing thing too, that look to Jesus is what turns and inflames our hearts. So if you're struggling with a cold heart, the way to go is not pull yourself together, try harder. The way to go is look and look to Jesus, and especially Jesus Christ crucified.
