This liturgy in the Time of Covid-19 attempts to meet the faith of Ascension members and others by combining elements of our parish's Good Friday traditions with a Good Friday 'Three Hours Devotion' widely observed elsewhere. The liturgy includes a chanted Passion from the Gospel of St. John and a series of seven sermons preached by the Rev. Fleming Rutledge at St. Thomas' Church on Good Friday 2018, followed by the Solemn Collects, chanted, and a very brief Mass of the Presanctified. A prior version included a commercial recording of the 'Miserere Mei' (with which the Ascension Good Friday mass normally concludes). This version ends with a solo lector offering Psalm 22. This Liturgy was mainly offered at an altar recently set up in the Ascension rectory. Special thanks to cantor David White (the Ascension Organist); Benjamin Rivera, Choirmaster, and members of the Choir of the Ascension (chanting of the Passion); Parishioner and Lector Jeffrey O'Malley; Verger and Technical consultant Mary Beth Hwang; and Brooke Raymond, ad hoc Sacristan.
