Romans in a nutshell. Romans is a book all about the gospel and about being people of the gospel. In Romans chapter 1 to 11 Paul lays out the biblical gospel for us and it works basically like this. Romans 1 to 4 is about Christ's sufficient redemption of those who can't redeem themselves. There is no one good, not even one. And Christ redeems helpless sinners by His grace alone so that we can be justified by faith alone. Then Romans 5 to 8, Paul talks about our need for regeneration, the Spirit's regeneration of our hearts. That to accept the gospel is not merely to acknowledge some truth, it is to be born again, to die with Christ and to rise to a new life which will transform how we desire and therefore how we live, how we love, how we act. Then Romans 9 to 11 I think is essentially dealing with the question, has God's Word failed? And answering no, the God's Word never fails. And so we have here a Trinitarian gospel about the redemption of the Son, the regeneration of the Spirit and the revelation of the Father. And then from Romans 12 to 16, Paul then says, "United in this gospel now, brothers love each other with a brotherly love. Don't cause each other to stumble over matters of special days you observe or things you might avoid eating. Be united in the gospel and show each other a charitable love in being able to disagree on secondary matters." And so Romans calls us to unity in the gospel alone, with the ability to disagree with each other as brothers and sisters over other issues.
