Have you heard the one about the artist, the doctor, and the priest? They are all part of landmark initiatives based in Duke Divinity School that bring together students and faculty across the humanities, medicine, and theology. As a demonstration of these interdisciplinary efforts at Duke Forward in Dallas, Ray Barfield, associate professor of pediatrics and Christian philosophy, leads an interactive discussion about the human side of medicine, and Jeremy Begbie, Thomas A. Langford Research Professor of Theology, plays the piano to show how artistic expression can enhance spiritual dialogue. Duke Forward, a seven-year, comprehensive fundraising campaign, aims to raise $3.25 billion by June 30, 2017. It supports priorities across Duke's 10 schools, Duke Health, and a range of university programs, and initiatives.
